We play at the Carterton ATP (Artificial Turf Pitch). The pitch is located next to the Carterton Community College.
Yes, anyone can play, provided they are 18+ and have “signed up”
No, you do not need to be good at football, in fact, you can be a complete beginner, have two left feet, and you’ll still be welcomed.
We kindly ask members to refrain from using foul and/or offensive language. Not everyone enjoys this. So please refrain from doing this.
We have a zero tolerance for any form of abuse, disrespect, and violence. If you engage in any of these, you will be asked to leave immediately. So just be nice.
Smokers/Vapers are asked to do this to the side off pitch and away from everyone that does not smoke/vape.
We recommend Firm Ground moulded stud boots, or Astro Boots. We do not recommend trainers/sneakers, and boots with metal studs are not allowed.
No, you do not need to wear shin guards. We are strict about challenges/tackles, which means that the chances of being kicked in the shins are very small. That said, it does happen on the odd occasion, so it’s entirely up to you if you’d like to wear shin guards or not.
That’s no problem at all. Play in your own stride and take breaks as often as you need. We do also stop halfway through too.
Everyone is expected to do a 10 minute shift in goals. This ensures that no one is stood stuck in goals for the entire session. That said, if a person wanted to be goalkeeper for longer than the 10 minutes or even the entire session, they are welcome to do this too.
After every session (Every Week), everyone that’s played, is encouraged to vote for a fellow player. The player that receives the most votes, gets awarded a FREE session by way of a voucher code. Note: If someone receives votes, the votes toward them will only be valid if they themselves have voted for someone.
Absolutely!
Absolutely! The more the merrier. They must just be 18+.
On the day, everyone picks a colour dice from a bag. The colour they pick, determines the colour team they’ll be playing on and they’ll be handed a corresponding colour bib/vest.
A lot of work goes on in the background and as the saying goes, “many hands make light work”. Helping us out with things like collecting bibs, balls, gloves at the end of a session, or helping pick up any litter, etc. goes a long way and does not go unnoticed.
Oh yes, they are squeaky. We wash them every week after every session.
We won’t say “no” to this. We do our absolute best to minimize the chances of injury by not allowing sliding tackles challenges, high kicks, strong shoulder barging, etc. Most injuries that occur are often from self, i.e. not having warmed up enough, sudden launch leading to a muscle pull. Other injuries that can happen are being hit by a ball or having foot/toes stood on accidentally. This is football after all, so some things are inevitable, despite how careful we are.
We play throughout the year, in all weather conditions. We’ll obviously cancel or stop the session if the weather poses “a risk to life”.
We recommend arriving at least 10 to 15 minutes before kick off time. This allows you to warm up and allows us to sort out teams in time for kick off.
We have two styles of sessions, 12 and 8 a Side. The session we do most, is 12 a Side, full pitch. This means a total of two teams, with a total of 24 players. The other session we do is an 8 a Side session. This has four teams, with a total of 32 players. All four teams play each other, in a Round Robin format. Two teams on each half of the pitch.
Unfortunately, not. There are no toilets or changing facilities. Sorry.
We endeavour to provide a consistent and good standard of equipment for everyone that plays, this includes the balls we play with, goalkeeper gloves, etc. Sometimes players will lose a ball. The balls we use are Nike Strike balls which are IMS (International Match Standard) approved. These balls cost £15. If a player loses a ball, they will be asked to pay a £10 fine. If a person is unable to pay this fine, they must just speak to us in private. In most cases a ball is lost due to carelessness, so don’t be careless.
Yes, we always have a basic first aid kit to hand. This includes ice packs, ice spray, basic bandages, plasters, eye solution, etc. This is always located to the side of the pitch.
Most people do. He is from Cape Town (South Africa), so his English sounds different.
Higgins Flooring are a flooring company and they (Matt Higgins and the team) have kindly sponsored our Team Kit. They’re great at carpets and flooring too!
There’s no set time. We pick these games at random.
We usually post about it and invite anyone that’s keen and available to let us know they want to play. Once we have a good list of people, we then pick who those who we feel are best suited. Obviously, we want to put a strong team out, so if you put your hand up and aren’t picked, please don’t take it personally. We still dig you!
